Visit Cartago City and Irazu Volcano

Chills and thrills. Your journey begins from San Jose to the old capital city of Cartago. You will pass through one of the richest coffee producing areas of the country.

We take the Pan-American Highway to the South, from Cartago we continue to climb for 20 miles up the magnificent lush slopes of the volcano and start ascending the large “Irazu”.

The deep richness of the volcano soil is evident as you capture the brilliant green hues of the farmland reminiscent of Switzerland itself. The spectacular view, which awaits you from the 11,300 ft. summit, will never be forgotten.

The winding road travels through fertile lands cultivated with all kinds of vegetables as we enjoy a lovely panoramic view. At the top of the volcano you can observe the main crater and on a clear day both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans can be seen.

A stop will also be made at Cartago to visit the famous Los Angeles Basilica where the patron saint of the country is enshrined.
